Not an easy find, but a very cool tool steel especially for knife makers. O6 steel is an oil-hardening, graphitic tool steel (ASTM T31506) recognized for its exceptional machinability and self-lubricating properties. Its unique microstructure contains free graphite, which is achieved through its high carbon and silicon balance. Carbon (C): 1.25% - 1.55% (approx. 0.70% to 0.90% exists as free graphite) Silicon (Si): 0.55% - 1.50% Manganese (Mn): 0.30% - 1.10% Molybdenum (Mo): 0.20% - 0.30% Chromium (Cr): 0.30% max Phosphorus (P): 0.030% max Sulfur (S): 0.030% max 3/4” x 1/4” x 12”
